This thangka painting features the most famous Eight Auspicious Symbols of Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhism known as Ashtamangala.
The Om symbols is at the center of the mandala surrounded by gold decorations and the eight ashtamangala depicted inside petals forming a beautiful lotus.
The Ashtamangalas are considered sacred objects and have been used as icons to preserve ancient esoteric knowledge and still used today during rituals and as teaching aid for Buddhist practitioners.
Because of the diffusion of Buddhism in several regions of Asia, these symbols influenced the art of many cultures, including traditional Indian and Chinese art.
