Mandala

In esoteric Buddhism Mandala is a sacred diagram and a device (Yantra) to practice Tantric meditation.
Mandalas are considered three-dimensional artworks that can represent deities, symbols and prayers along with geometric figures and decorations.

Buddhist monks used to draw beautiful and complex mandalas on the ground using colored sand. Once the Mandala was completed it was removed as conclusion of the ritual, strong symbol of the impermanence of reality.
However today mandalas are not used for initiation rituals only.

Thanks to painted Thangkas, Mandalas became a great visual aid for concentration and everyday meditation practice.
